

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Betty J. Carter, 80, of Davenport will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a private burial to follow at a later date. Mrs. Carter died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 9th, 2012. Betty Jean Dierksen was born on March 2, 1932 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Adolph and Bessie (Laycox) Dierksen. She married John W. Carter in Clinton, IA in 1950. He preceded her in death in September of 1994. Mrs. Carter was a homemaker, a loving Grandma and most of all Mom. She loved family picnics, nature walks, family game time, and will always be remembered for her great sense of humor. She was an avid reader, collected light houses, enjoyed bird watching, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, music, and flowers. Surviving members of the family include – 3 Daughters: Barbara (John) Goossen, Sharon (Scott) Ybarra, and Debra (Dan) Gullion all of Davenport; 4 Sons: Gary Carter of Phoenix, AZ, David Carter and Randy Carter of Davenport, and Scott (Justine) Carter of Albuquerque, NM; 13 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by - her parents, a daughter: Marilyn, a son: Richard, and 6 brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis VNA Hospice Association.
