Betty Jean Miller was born on December 23, 1942, on her grandparents’ Charles and Effie Nelson’s farm in Dermott, Arkansas to the union of the late Cleveland Miller and Sammie Nelson Miller. She moved with her family to Fresno, California then to Rock Island, Illinois. Betty lived a life that exemplified her love of God, love for her family, and her passion for education.
Mother Betty was a faithful member and Associate Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God Worship Center for many years, serving under Bishop A. L. Boyd, Bishop McArthur Anderson, and Bishop Mark A. Anderson. Her Kingdom Ministry Service also included Apostolic Truth Temple Church and Greater Praise Temple.
Since childhood, Mother Betty loved spending time with her family, church members, and friends. She loved children, naming Crystal Brown, Loneisha Crumbley, Dawn Klinkner, Anthony Weatherly, and Santana Williams as her godchildren.
Mother Betty received her formal education in the Rock Island Milan School District at Hawthorne Elementary, Central Jr. High, and she graduated from Rock Island High School. She spent her professional career as an educator in RIMSD, teaching pre-school and elementary school.
Fond and loving memories of Mother Betty Jean Miller will remain in the hearts of her aunts, Effie Hathaway and Fannie Haynes (Freddie); her Nelson-Heard and Miller families; her Pentecostal Church of God Worship Center family; her godchildren; and a host of friends and community affiliates.
Mother Betty was preceded in death by her parents Cleveland Miller and Sammie Nelson Miller; her brother Keith Richard Miller; her grandparents; and cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under Heaven.”
