DAVENPORT, Iowa---Beulah (Boots) Maxine Ede (Barr), 88, passed away at 1:30 pm, December 27, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Private family funeral services will be held. “Boots” was born on December 14, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Carrie Sawyer Barr and William Barr. She graduated from Davenport Central High School, attended St. Ambrose College and taught school in a one-room school house in Scott County. Later she worked at the former Simon and Landow Store and was manager of the former Candles & Stuff at North Park Mall.
“Boots” loved and won prizes for her quilting and rose gardening. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening in general, numerous pets throughout her life, music box and antique candy container collecting, activities and time spent with family and friends at their beloved River House in Montpelier, and supplying the neighborhood children and others with cookies and other baked delights, such as her pies, for which she was especially known.
“Boots” will always be remembered for her values, loyal friendships, patience and family ties, and her overwhelming kindness. She always looked for and found the good in everyone. She will be sincerely missed by her family and friends and her memory will always remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Frank Ede; her daughters, Diane (Joel) Franken of Davenport and Pam Ede-Wigton of Coolidge, Arizona; her grandchildren, Ann Pierce of Brier, Washington , Tora Meiers of Arizona and; her great-grandchildren, Jack Pierce and Kristina Pierce of Washington, and Trent Jacob Meiers, Litchfield Park, Arizona; niece Sandra Delfs of Cedar Falls and nephew Dan Koch of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, her sister-in-law, Janet Barr of Sarasota, Florida, several cousins and many wonderful friends.
“Boots” was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Barr and her sister Lois (Koch) Barr, brother-in-law Victor J. Koch , and her mother and father.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Clarissa Cook Hospice House for the compassionate, professional and personal care shown to “Boots” during her stay with them.
