

Beverly E. Serrano, 75, of Davenport passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 8, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. She was born March 5, 1938 in Davenport, a daughter of Frank and Jessie (Fisher) Koschate. She married John J. “Buck” Serrano, Jr. in January 1956. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1995. She was in the healthcare field since the age of fourteen, working at the old Mercy Hospital. She retired as a CNA from the Osteopathic Hospital in 1987, where she was instrumental in starting the health care workers union. She was involved in local and national Democratic Party politics. Mrs. Serrano traveled extensively with her husband in earlier years to labor union conferences. Her hobbies included: cooking, gardening and sewing. She experienced a full life of journeys on this Earth. Now the greatest divine journey has begun. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much, they were her life. Survivors include her children: Yolanda Gartner; Laurie (Joseph) Hernandez; Chip (Mona Lisa) Serrano; Scott (Cheryl) Serrano and Amanda Serrano; grandchildren: Gabe, Katie, Ben, Leah, Natalie, Isabella, Sophia, Lindsey, Brittnie and Chelsea; great grandchildren: Cameron; Julianna; Mariah and Joseph and a sister, Gladys (Bob) McCoy. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care given by the staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
