All family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation at 1PM with the funeral service conducted by Kim Cang Buddhist Temple to follow at 2PM. The reception will be held at Dynasty Buffet in Davenport, IA, at 3PM.
Camvan was born in Mỹ Tho of Vietnam to Thiu V. Nguyen and Yen T. Ly. Her father was a cacao farmer who shortly lost his life as a civilian casualty in the beginnings of the Vietnam war. Single-handedly, Camvan’s mother raised 6 children on her own. The tight-knit unit generated by early tragedy and war carried the close relationship of the two daughters and five sons into the present.
The love of mathematics drove Camvan to matriculate into Thủ Đức College. However, the pursuit to completing her degree in mathematics halted as the looming Vietnam war encroached the borders of Saigon. The decision was made to immigrate to the United States. Precious family heirlooms were sold off to fund the travels. Camvan, her mother, brother, nieces, and nephews made their way to Cambodia and the Philippines on a precariously over-capacity boat. From there, they were U.S. bound and sponsored by her brother, who previously made the journey years earlier.
Camvan, her mother, brother, nieces, and nephews moved from Texas to Iowa. At an English as a Second Language class, she met her future husband, Loc V. Hoang. For 35 years, they shared a home, three loving children, and acquired various business endeavors.
Despite enduring so much hardship, Camvan was an upbeat, loving, and beautiful soul. She was always able to illuminate love and happiness to all she touched within her lifetime.
She loved to garden, but above all, devoted her life to her family. She focused every ounce of energy on providing diverse opportunities for her children to succeed in life. For the remainder of her life, she transitioned from mother to grandmother, relishing in the joys of spending time with her five beautiful grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and will always be remembered.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, one son, five grandchildren, one sister, four brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
