Carol Ann Hulse
July 4, 1953 – February 14, 2021
Carol Ann Hulse, 67, passed from this world unexpectedly and peacefully on February 14, 2021.
Carol was born on the 4th of July, 1953, to Thomas and Mercedes Dorsten of Edmonds, Washington. Carol graduated from Woodway High School in 1971 and moved to Eugene, Oregon to attend college where she met and married Davey Hulse. They settled in Bend, Oregon where their daughter Darah was born. Following their divorce, Carol attended nursing school and after graduation in 1986, began her beloved career in nursing. She eventually found a passion for Oncology nursing in Lacey, Washington where she spent 20 years caring for patients and their families. She was proud of the work she did and touched many lives. She loved supporting the nurses she worked with and mentoring new graduates. In 2006 Carol moved to Iowa to begin her most favorite role ever – being a grandmother. In Iowa she also finished out her nursing career at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, again impacting so many lives.
Carol loved the Mariners, watching birds, and loved her cats. She loved sewing and helping people find lost pets. She loved Napoleon Dynamite. She loved laughing and laughing and laughing. She loved her people the very most. She absolutely treasured her grandchildren and was so pleased to be such an active part of their everyday lives. Carol had a knack for thoughtful gifts, for turning inconveniences into adventures, for knowing the exact right moment someone needed a call or note. She taught us how to be present for others; how to hold people during their best and worst. She knew how to turn friends into family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Darah Hulse and John Gillette, grandchildren Guthrie, Laithe, Juniper, and Cort all of Davenport, IA; a brother Thomas Dorsten, Edmonds, WA, sister Teresa Lokken Lynnwood, Wa, niece Jennifer (Gregg) and great nieces Isobel and Victoria Allen of Spokane, WA. She also leaves countless friends who are family to honor her memory.
Cremation rites have been accorded per Carol’s wishes along with a private family gathering. A public memorial is planned at the beach in Washington later in the year.

I am truly heartbroken. Can't believe I can no longer, talk, visit, text. She was my son's 2nd Mom and a HUGE part of our life! There is no one else like her. Kindness, understanding, loving, gentle. She had such great ideas......
Always in my heart and thoughts..
