A believer in magic. Crafter of all things beautiful. Baker of chocolate chip cookies. She was born to a sailor and a nurse, a Henry Reece and Mary Munden, an only child who tested the patience of her parents and all of the Saints.
She was known for her inquisitive mind and quick tongue which often got her into trouble. Cathie was a nomad most of her life finally ended up in Davenport, Iowa where she graduate from Central High School. She met and married Robert Sass and continued to travel while he was stationed in Germany while in the Army. They ended up having the best four children any one could ask for, even though Cathie would tell you that she never planned on having kids. The best blessing in her life are Jade (Brian) Burkholder, Cord (Tracy) Sass, Blythe (Shawn) Boesen and Misty (Jeff) Leach, cause she loved them most.
She made a magical world for her children where they believed in fire breathing dragons, magical unicorns, and that they could become any thing in the entire universe. She was skilled in the craft of making something out of nothing. Crepes out of not enough pancake batter. Exquisite formal gowns for all of her oldest daughters dances. She was able to provide experiences for her kids through her selfless acts of giving up her time in order for her kids to participate in such things as Dads Club Softball, Bluebirds, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and camping.
She found an add stating he was a teddy bear in a random spot and a few years later she married “the cowboy/ her Mr. Wonderful” Ron Proehl for further adventures thru the rest of her years. With Ron came Rhonda Snyder and Ronnie Proehl to join the adventure. Ron and Cathie did some traveling and spent lots of time at home with their very loved fur babies. Hot dog roasts, Easter egg hunts, sledding on the hill, Christmas and several “all the kids” stopping by at once. Her favorite sound was laughter of family and friends, she would just sit and smile and say “that, that right there … is the best.”
As the years flew by, her babies grew up and started having families of their own. She was one to have a heart attack and promptly get out of the hospital and make bridesmaids dresses in a week before the weddings. Her first surprise grandchild was the revive in life that she had no idea that she needed. She got to spend so much time with Catlin. He was her world. And then more grandchildren came… Madison, Austin, Makala, Sophia, Phoebe, Grace, Reece, Michelle, Noah and finally Raven. Along with many step grandchildren Ronald Snyder, Zeek Snyder, Baylee Snyder, Violette Proehl, Kassidy McGee and Dakota McMeem. Along with 7 Great step grandkids. She never believed in the word step as she treated and loved every single one of them as if they were her own. She had the time of her life with her all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The sun rose and set on them. She was the best babysitter! She loved to rock them as babies and sing you are my sunshine off key. She shared so much of her love through different things for each of them. The sky is a little more brighter at night. The sun is a little brighter in the morning. She was magical in every sense. Those that knew her were so very blessed and grateful for her.
Per her wishes there are no services. She would love a pet adoption or plant some flowers in her memory.
