Cecil was a kind, giving man, who loved to help and serve others. He was actively involved in the Lion’s Club and helped in the Christian Service Brigade in the past. Cecil was a trustee and deacon at Grandview Church and took many young people canoeing in Canada Boundary waters. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know Jesus Christ.
Cecil worked at Caterpillar for 26 years as a mechanist and time study engineer. When it closed, he continued working at Rock Island Arsenal for 10 years until retirement, and then drove limousines for funerals. Cecil felt his greatest work was passing on his belief in Jesus Christ to his family.
Cecil was a great example of loving others to his family of four children: Cindy (Dan) Wieckhorst, Aaron (Sue) and Jeff (Deb) “Hoon twins,” and Sarah (Chris) Johnston. He loved his 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and of course, his one and only wife of 60 years, Barbara. Cecil was a great brother to Bettie (Bill) Escoubas in the Seattle area and Suzanne (Barry) Smith in Elizabethtown, PA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie, and his parents, Cecil Sr. and Adeline Hoon. Cecil loved picnics with family and traveling to see relatives and God’s creation. He was a man who would give you his shirt off his back, but it would usually be food stained. Cecil helped others with rides, meals, encouragement, and was a handyman, helping many. His family looks forward to being reunited together in heaven. “Because the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.” Lamentations, 3:22
