

Cecil Clayton Ross, 89, of Davenport, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary. Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Cecil was born July 20, 1922 in Cincinnati, IA, the son of Willard and Lottie (Worley) Ross. He served in the Army Infantry during WWII where he received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star.
Cecil taught in the Eldon and Tipton Iowa School Districts and then served as Principal for the Fremont, Iowa School District. He retired in 1988 from the AEA where he was an Education Specialist for many years. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, N.E.A (lifetime), and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. In his free time, Cecil enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and tinkering with different things.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Mary, Davenport, children and spouses: Michele Ross (Lee Spitler); Marla Snider; Melinda Rudish (Garry) and Kevin Ross (Tam); grandchildren: Staci Nielsen (Brian); Ben Snider; Emily Rudish and John, James, Joseph and Joanna Ross; great grandchildren: Jalen and Kylie Morrow. His parents, brothers: Elvin, Floyd and Loren and sister, Mabel Sparks preceded him in death.
