Charlene and I worked together at AT&T for a number of years, both on safety committees and with the Telephone Pioneers. A memorable trip we took together was to an AT&T safety meeting in Basking Ridge, NJ. We took the occasion to tour Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and walked past the World Trade Center (where we transferred buses).
With the Telephone Pioneers, we, and others, spent many hours making “heart pillows”, collecting items to give to schools, helped print and distribute books for kids, worked to build the (no longer existing) telephone museum in the AT&T 528 Main building in Davenport…. We also helped find new locations for our collection when we had to abandon the space to Northwestern Bell.
Charlene usually had a really upbeat attitude and wanted to help others more than herself.
