Charles Oakes

Charles Raymond Oakes, 76, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services. His final resting place will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Runge Mortuary is assisting his family.

He was born in Middlebury, MI on July 28, 1946. He was the son of Charles and Evalyn Oakes. The family moved to Davenport in the early 1950’s and he attended Davenport schools. He was then drafted and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he trained as a welder and retired from the RI Arsenal after more than 30 years of service.

He married Nancy Schesser in 1971, they later divorced. He then married Michele (Money) Davis in 1995. She preceded him in death in 2022. He is survived by: stepdaughter: Amber (Dusty) Gold, step-grandchild: Brittany (Cody) Crawford and sister-in-law, Suzanne Woods, Davenport.

His parents and sisters Darlene and Phyllis preceded him in death.

The family would like to thank the staff at Genesis East ICU, Select Specialty Hospital and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice for their care of Chuck during this difficult time. A special thank you also to his niece, Erica Money for her frequent visits and constant consideration of his needs. Your kindness will never be forgotten!
