

Cheryl R. Hesse, 71, of Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, after a short battle with lung cancer at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. She was comforted at the end by her family and special friends, Lonny Wilkinson, David Ochs, Dixie Martin and Sue Yoder. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until the service, at the mortuary. Inurnment will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
Cheryl was born May 16, 1944 in Clinton, IA; the daughter of Rolland and Beatrice (Thielen) Proud. She graduated from Clinton High School. She was united in marriage to Terry Hesse on March 13, 1964.
She retired from Oscar Mayer after 21 years of service. She was a member of the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society, NRA and AARP. Cheryl was a tenacious, energetic person, dedicated to her family and friends. She loved attending her granddaughters’ musical performances, gardening, baking, playing cards and watching football. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Bix Jazz Festival for the last five years.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Joseph (Laura) Hesse; granddaughters, Christina and Stephanie Hesse; sister, Marlene (Ed) King; brother, Jim (Linda) Proud and brothers-in-law, Bob Housenga and Ken Peters
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Terry; sisters, Lois Housenga and Bev Peters and a special friend, Phyllis Clark.
