

Chester C. “Chet” Funk, 96, of Davenport passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Monday at the mortuary. Burial will in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Chet was born September 24, 1919 in Tipton Iowa, a son of Walter and Emma (Kuehl) Funk. He served in the US Army during World War II under General George Patton. He married Hazel Gill in Davenport in 1945. She preceded him in death in 2002. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Sivyer Steel for thirty-seven years, where he retired as foreman.
Chet was past president of the Davenport Bowling Association and had attended fifty ABC and numerous state bowling tournaments. He was a former hardball player and Golden Gloves boxer, an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1970 Ford Thunderbird and fishing in Minnesota at Cedar Lake. He loved his cocker spaniel, Missy. Survivors include two sons: Robert (Wendy) Funk and Richard Funk; granddaughters Samantha Funk and Jessie Funk; great grandchildren: Malachi, Zayah, Bryson and Zariah and a sister Eva Moeller. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
