Christine E. Hester, 80, of Davenport, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House with her beloved family by her side. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 10am – 12pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Memorials in Christine’s name may be made to the Davenport Schools Foundation: Jim Hester Scholarship.
Christine was born on December 6, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Hester on March 20, 1979, in Davenport, Iowa. Christine’s teaching career started off at Alcee Fortier High School. She was a devoted teacher to her students in DECA(Distributive Education Clubs of America).
Christine was a teacher with the Davenport School District for many years before she retired in 2013.
Christine was a founding member of the Minorities in Teaching in the Quad Cities. Eventually Christine was promoted to coordinator for the entire Davenport School District and consulted and collaborated with staff from University of Northern Iowa.
She was an active member at Progressive Baptist Church for many years. Christine was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Quad City Negro Heritage, the Eastern Stars, Quad Cities – IL chapter of Links Inc., and the Davenport Schools Foundation. Christine loved to spend time with her grandchildren and going to their sporting activities. She enjoyed cooking her favorite Southern meals for her family and friends, going shopping at Von Maur, attending sorority events, and watching football.
Those left to honor her memory are her children Charles (Mina) LaGrange, Jr., Jami (Jeremy) Hester-Baumer, and Janelle Hester; her beloved grandchildren Daxton, Dillynn, Dallis, Shamina, Nick, Jayla, and Kaden; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Charles LaGrange, Sr., her second husband Jim Hester; a grandson Jeremy Baumer, Jr., and her parents.
