Cleo Ransford Bingham was born on February 17, 1927, in Oakland, MO, one of six children of James Oscar and Johanna Gonelja (Vinsand) Bingham. In 1945, following his school days, Cleo enlisted in the U.S. Army as PFC. During his military career, he also served as a military policeman at Elgin Field, FL. His assigned duty there was with the base squadron, serving at the gates leading to the base. In 1947, Cleo was honorably discharged, having been awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
On February 3, 1968, Cleo married Shirley Ann Perry in Bettendorf. The couple raised seven children. Sadly, two of Cleo’s nine children died at birth.
Cleo loved gardening, especially tending to his tomato plants and watermelon patch. He enjoyed going hunting, and had a passion for fishing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always telling jokes.
Those surviving to honor Cleo’s memory include his wife, Shirley Bingham; children: Mona Bingham, Cathy Zabel, Mary LaMar, Bonnie Bingham, and Becky Bingham; grandchildren: Stacey, Sean, Debi, Amber, Katie, Lance, and Nickie; along with numerous great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Cleo Chester Bingham and Susan Marie Bingham; brothers, Romie “R.J.”, Manuel, and Marlin; and sisters, Pauline and Irene.
