How do you summarize 94 years of life? Clifford was born August 8, 1930 to Glenn and Mertie (Currier) Shore in Algona Ia. He had 2 older brothers William and Bruce and younger siblings Jesse Shore, Mary Shore (Moon), Carol Shore (Tharp). They were all raised and educated in Algona Iowa and were active and faithful members of St. Thomas Episcopal church. Clifford met his soul mate Shirley M Collier at choir practice at the Cathedral around 1951. They were married on August 22, 1953. Cliff and Shirl lived in Davenport while Cliff attended Augustana then moved to Wilmington, Il for 4 years where Cliff worked at Joliet arsenal. Being promoted to Head of Personnel at Savanna Army Depot, they lived in Savanna for the next 30 years where they’d raise their family. While there, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising horses. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Savanna. He was a 50+lifetime member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge. In 1997, their love story came full circle back to Davenport, IA, to care for Shirley’s mother. They once again became members of Trinity Cathedral. Cliff made many friendships, through participating in the Masonic Lodge, Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star, cancer benefits, craft and health fairs, along with organ lessons which became a hobby later in life. Cliff also nurtured a green thumb, taking great pride in his garden, particularly his prized tomatoes. He then generously shared ripe tomatoes that brought delight to friends and family gatherings. His gardening passion reflected his patience, dedication, and love for the simple joys in life. Cliff will be cherished for his thoughtful and creative spirit, especially evident in his exquisite, hand-painted Christmas ornaments. Each year, he'd lovingly craft these miniature masterpieces, carefully selecting a unique design for each family member. His attention to detail and devotion to his art brought joy to all who received these treasured gifts. Additionally, Cliff's artistic talents extended to his beautifully painted villages, which he'd painstakingly perfect with precision and patience. His artwork will continue to inspire warm memories and serve as a testament to his love and creativity. Other activities and interests were reading, golfing, and attending River Bandit Games, Quad City Hockey Games, attending their grandchildren’s sporting and school functions, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. Vivid storytelling is perhaps what Cliff is most remembered for, exercising his fantastic recall and animated voice to entertain wherever he found himself. Even at large gatherings of family and friends, he found time to see and appreciate each one of us.
