Born on August 7, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, Cynthia was the beloved daughter of Allen and Dorothea Johnson. She graduated from Calumet High School and dedicated much of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.
Cynthia found joy in life’s simple pleasures—listening to “dusties,” dancing with soul, and sharing her love through cooking and baking, especially her legendary cakes. Her green thumb was unmatched, and she lovingly gifted plant cuttings to those close to her, often following up to ensure they were thriving. Cynthia was known for her vibrant personality, her honesty, and her ability to “keep it real”—traits that endeared her to many and made her unforgettable.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her children: Kimberly (Eric) Winters, Corey Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Johnale (Veronica) Johnson; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Sharon Barfield, Diane Maxfield, Robert Maxfield, Carlos Maxfield, and Millie Johnson. Cynthia also leaves behind a host of extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Tevin Johnson; and siblings Eric Maxfield and Mercedes White.
Cynthia’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and authenticity. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
