Dale W. Benson

Memorial services for Dale Benson, 78, of Davenport, will be 2:00 pm on Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, Davenport. Burial will take place 9:30 am at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are to meet at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Friday at 9:00 am. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Dale passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.Dale Wayne Benson was born on March 22, 1934 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Laura “Lucile” (Thompson) Benson. He married Barbara Guile on December 4, 1964 in Rock Island. Dale worked for Qwest as a Telephone Testing Technician for 34 years. He retired in 1990. Dale served as a sharp shooter in the U.S. Army, from 1956 to 1958. Dale was a member of the Telephone Pioneer of America. Dale was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed playing poker, gardening but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Davenport, daughters, Penny (John Oertel) Phillips and Lori (Phillip) Martin both of Davenport, grandchildren; Ashley (Jason Ockerman) Phillips, Neil “Eddie” (Christina Lutz) Phillips, brother; Darryl (Mary) Benson of Springfield, Ohio and a sister; Shirley Ingram of Perry, Iowa.
