

Dale A. Terhune, 88, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 5, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Runge Mortuary and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Dale was born January 28, 1924 in Manchester, IA to Otto and Emma Terhune. He married Doris Adams on November 1, 1946 in Ottumwa, IA.
He served in the United States Army with the 34th Infantry in Africa, Sicily and Italy during World War II and was honored to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in April 2009.
He graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA with a Master’s Degree.
He taught in Welton, Colfax, Corydon and Davenport where he taught Industrial Arts, Science and Driver’s Education at Smart Junior High, West and Central High Schools, retiring in 1988 after 39 years. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Elks, Moose Lodge, American Legion, numerous educational associations and card clubs and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, bowling, golf, sports and playing cards and was a fan of Hawkeye football and the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Dick, Davenport; Doug (Cindy), Port Byron; Deb (Mike) Yeager, Davenport; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren with one due in February; two sisters, Jean Kroening, Detroit, MI and Grace Scott, Grimes, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
