Funeral service will be held 10am Wednesday (2/17) at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory. Visitation will be 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday at the mortuary. Private burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required. Memorials may be directed to support Thymic Cancer research or to a college fund for his granddaughter, Noelle Evon Danielle. Dan was never one to stand on formality. The family encourages you to wear your Cubs or Illini gear. Dan was born on September 13, 1961 in Moline, IL the son of Albert and Elaine (Marlier) DeFauw. He married Nikki J. Moore on April 13 1985, in Rock Island. He was employed by the City of Davenport for 35 years.
Dan loved his family, grilling, the Chicago Cubs, the Fighting Illini, Nascar, and Miller High Life. He was an avid bowler. Dan coached and volunteered for many of his children’s activities and he never missed a performance or a game.
He enjoyed cooking for others and was well known for his peanut brittle. He taught his kids to catch by tossing cookies to them after dinner. He was a woodworker who hand-crafted many items for his family though he never failed to point out the ‘flaws’ only he could see. His final project was a family cradle for his granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Nikki; son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Nicole DeFauw, Iowa City; sons Kyle (Mariah Chapdelaine) and Jared (Megan DeArmond), of Davenport; daughter Hannah DeFauw (Gavin Ipsen) of Iowa City and a much loved granddaughter Noelle; sister and brother-in-law, Arlyce and James Logan; brother David DeFauw; mother-in-law Virginia Altemeier, Davenport; and special sister-in-law Lynette (Richard) Rodriguez, Salinas, California; four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
