Darlene Christine Carlin, beloved daughter of Fred and Helen Ehlers Wessell, passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on Monday, August 12th, 2024, at Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge, Iowa.
Her seven children are sons, Mark Van Hoosier, Paul Van Hoosier, Jay VanHoosier (Amy), Scott Van Hoosier (Babs), Neil VanHoosier (Joyce), and daughters, Lori Van Hoosier Kruger (Rick), and Anne Carlin Bormann (Rick). She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren with another arriving in December.
Darlene worked in medical offices for 28 years and retired from Orthopaedic & Rheumatology Association after 18 years in 2003. She cherished her life long friendships made during that time and loved the ORA family. She always considered herself lucky to have worked there.
In her free time Darlene enjoyed hiking, golfing, biking, book club, and travel. Those activities lead to many treasured friendships throughout her life. She was a lifelong learner, loved by many.
She had a gift of creating a special relationship with each of her children, consistently known to be wise, caring, and a beautiful confidante.
She was an active member of First Christian Church in Davenport, and she loved her church family. After a merger she then became a member of Faith First Community Church and enjoyed the special visits by Pastor Heidi Hulme.
It's comforting to the family to know that she's going to be greeted by those that passed before her. Her parents, an older infant brother, Norman Wessell, her brother, LaVerne Wessell, Sister-in-Law Jackie Wessell, and many cherished friends.
Visitation and funeral services will both be held at Faith First Community Church in Davenport on Saturday, August 24th, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the funeral service at 11 am. Funeral arrangements have been made through Weerts Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate in memory of Darlene, she requested remembrances be made to Faith First Community Church or National Public Radio.
A special heartfelt thanks to the Grand Haven family, and the Genesis Hospice team as they cared for and supported Darlene and her family through this journey.
