DAVENPORT- Darlene Koster, of Davenport, died December 29, 2023 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. Darlene was born November 7, 1929, to Carl and Rose (Porth) Gimm in Walcott, Iowa. She married Jack Koster July 2, 1953. Darlene graduated from Davenport High School and attended Iowa State Teachers' College. She worked as a teacher in rural Scott County Schools until she began losing her hearing. She was a bookkeeper at Illini Hospital 19 years.
Darlene was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to cook dinners for her family, especially for birthdays and holidays, and continued to do so into her 80's. She made hundreds of cookies and fudge every Christmas, and she never forgot a birthday. She was there when needed for kids and grandkids, whether babysitting, helping with a few dollars, meals, fixing furniture, doing yard work, or saying a prayer. She loved dogs, especially her last dog, Pancake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, brother, daughter, Becky, and son-in-law, Rick Young.
Survivors include sons, Kirk (Kathy), Davenport, and Mark (Linda Miller), Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Kim, Davenport; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
