Darlene was born April 29, 1926 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Silas Peterson and Ruthella (Olson) Peterson. She married Dennis Moore in 1954 in Davenport. Darlene was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1989 after 35 years of service. She also worked two years at P.F. Collier & Sons, six years at General Electric, and one year at the Federal Bakery during her last year at Davenport High School.
Darlene was a loving mother and best friend to her daughter, Debbie. She was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed traveling, music, writing poetry, gardening, needlepoint, letter writing and interior decorating. She was an accomplished seamstress, watercolor artist and quilter; finishing a beautiful quilt she started when she was 12 and winning second prize at the Mississippi Valley Fair. She most enjoyed making others happy, many times visiting nursing homes to brighten someone else’s day. Those who knew Darlene, knew her smile could light up a room and her sense of humor would always make you laugh. And her love for ice cream will never be forgotten. Darlene’s lifetime wish was fulfilled in the summer of 1998, when she took several family members on a 21-day trip to Scandinavia where she visited Hishult, Sweden the hometown of her ancestors.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Appel and her staff; the Senior Star Memory Care staff, nurses and care partners; and the Clarissa Cook Hospice House for all of their exemplary care and compassion.
