Darwin Eugene Kearney

The family will greet friends from 10:00am to 12:00pm Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory Davenport. Funeral services will be 12:00pm Friday, August 21, 2026, in the Runge Chapel. Burial will follow at National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America. Darwin was born March 20, 1949, in Davenport, IA to Earl & Fay (Hubbard) Kearney. Darwin proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. He was united in marriage to Linda Kerth on October 23, 1970. He later married Sheryl Veloz on September 27, 1997, in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death in 2012. Darwin had been employed with the Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department for 20 years retiring as an assistant chief and hazmat specialist. He drove part-time for Adrian Carriers Milan, IL.

Darwin had served as a volunteer fireman for many years with the Long Grove Fire Dept in Iowa. He was a member of the VFW and was just selected and excited for an upcoming Honor Flight in September. Darwin enjoyed fishing and boating with his wife Sheryl in Branson, MO, prior to moving back to Quad Cities. He enjoyed family time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One of his favorite times was sharing a bourbon with his son.

He is survived by son, Chad Kearney, Davenport, IA; daughters, Sarah Grant, Charlotte, IA, Shawna (Andy) Trenkamp, Goose Lake, IA, and Elizabeth Kearney, Davenport, IA; stepchildren, Tina, Chris, and Ramon; grandchildren, Mikka, Tylyn, Brandon, Hailey, Taylor, Shyisha, Gracie, Tre, Eliza, Will, and Ben; numerous great grandchildren, with one on the way; sisters, Colleen Kearney, Rebecca Spragg, and Rita Nuesca; and brother, Gary Kearney.

He was welcomed into heaven by his wife, parents, and 3 brothers.
