David Glen Findlay was born August 24, 1940 to Robert and Marjorie (Lutz) Findlay. He left this world on April 5, 2026 at Genesis East Hospital due to congestive heart failure complications. At the age of 18, David eloped with Marsha Baker. They were married for 64 years until Marsha passed away unexpectedly in 2023. They had two children- Kimberly Findlay-Brackey (Rick Brackey) of LeClaire, Iowa and Thad Findlay of Berthoud, Colorado. There are seven grandchildren. Jakob and Joshua Findlay. Jared and Ryan Brackey and Valerie (Brackey) Jepsen. Morgan and Bailey Sanders. They had nine great-grandchildren. He is survived by a younger sister, Elizabeth Long and her husband Ron. His sister-in-law Sherrill Kleinman (Larry) and brother-in-law, Donnie Baker.
Dave often said that had a wonderful life. "I had a lot of fun, great friends, a good job and a wife I loved." He and Marsha enjoyed many vacations together in the U.S., Mexico, Spain and Great Britain. Dave was proud of his Scottish heritage and membership in the Mayflower Society. He was a "guy's guy" and relished activities with groups of friends. For many years he shot trap at the Izaak Walton League; as a younger man he went hunting with buddies; in his 80's he joined a golf league; he also began shooting pool again several times weekly.
He was innately talented with machinery and woodworking. He taught himself watch repair and collected watches for decades. He was fascinated by aviation and as a young man he built operated radio-controlled airplanes. A great accomplishment in his life was earning his pilot's license in his 50's. After working at Caterpillar for more than 20 years as a CNC machinist and foreman the Mt. Joy operation closed its doors. Dave then opened the first paintless dent removal business in the Quad Cities and was a successful entrepreneur.
He could repair or build almost anything. There was never a need to call maintenance service people to Dave's home.
Per Dave's wishes, there will not be a formal funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, Iowa on Saturday, June 27, 2026 beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Putnam Museum where Dave enjoyed many hours volunteering.
