Dear Aunt Dorothy & Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the days, weeks, and months ahead.  Many are praying for comfort and peace for you as only God can provide.
The memories of David will be in your hearts forever.  May Jesus welcome him to heaven with open arms.  Hoping for a lasting Heinze Reunion when God calls each family member home.  God Bless!

May the angels welcome him home.  (I am sure that he will have some wry comments to make about the accommodations.)  For me, as for many others, he was special and beloved, and years of separation never dimmed the memories.  This is a great loss.

I cannot fully express the grief I feel right now about Dave's passing.  I still can't quite believe that our dear friend is gone.  




Dave, I can't imagine not receiving your unique and often outrageous perspective on the topics of our email chains; responses that would often make me laugh out loud at work and giggle for hours later.  I can't imagine our group get-togethers without you and how you'd always want to bring something, even though I'd tell you that you didn't have to.  I will miss teasing you about my cat, Zoey, who would always manage to find you and share her "special angle" with you, much to your dismay.  And I will also miss our Three and sometimes Four Musketeers' outings to restaurants and movies and hearing your colorful reviews afterwards.  Even when I had to give you a verbal "kick in the pants" in an attempt to motivate you to make positive, proactive changes, I know you knew it was born out of care and concern.  Know that our group will never be the same without you, dear friend!  You will truly be missed!  




To his family:  Dave was loved and cared for by many here in the Des Moines area and we share in your sorrow.  In his last email to our group (responding to a request to include him in a prayer circle for his ear situation), he responded, "I'm not too sure what a prayer circle is; but if it involves brief, unschmaltzy good wishes, and it doesn't generate spam emails, then thanks."  Know that you--and Dave--will be included in our prayers.

Dear Dorothy and family,
  It was sad to read David's obituary today in the Q.C. Times.  Brought back many memories of our families growing up together in Rock Island.  David had a very interesting life and really lived it to the fullest.  My heart, love and sympathy go out to all of you.

I simply have to start here: Me loves me some Heinzey! And no doubt somewhere Dave is looking down and smiling at the fact that this website offers "suggested entires" for those struggling with what to write. Believe me, he would have had a field day with that... 

Dave was among the most intelligent people I ever knew...and he was far and way the best writer I have encountered. Most important, he was laugh out loud funny with his dry (some might say "curmudgeonly") humor. 

I will cherish my memories of Dave. On days when work or life had me beaten down, all I needed to do was sneak away for lunch with Heinzey to be reminded that there was this great big world out there...which made the day-to-day problems I encountered seem trivial by comparison.

Dave was so well versed on virtually any subject...we could literally talk for hours...and almost without fail he left me laughing, in awe, or some combination of the two. I appreciated his irreverence, his wit, his passion for causes that mattered to him, and...I guess...most of all is incredible intelligence.

I think we should all raise a glass of single malt scotch and toast a truly unique and incredible man...I love you, Dave!

Our condolences to Dave's family members.  I have been acquainted with Dave for a number of years while living as his neighbor and have enjoyed many conversations while out by our garages.  Even though he seemed to like his privacy I feel that he was a friend.   Rest in Peace, Dave.

Awww, Heinzey. I've thought of you often and wondered what you were up to since I left Wellmark. Loved your wit and unique perspective. Hugs to your family.

Dave and I worked together for many years and shared so many lunches, long conversations, gripe sessions, arguments, and laughs. He had a unique outlook on life, and could lighten any situation with his sarcastic sense of humor. He was one of the smartest people I've ever known and would take on personal projects like reading all of the works of Shakespeare or a particular philosopher. He also wrote beautifully and brilliantly. Condolences to Dave's mom and family. I miss you, Dave!

Dave was my best friend during the early, formative years growing up in Rock Island.  We were baseball brothers and spent many summer afternoons at Hodge Park.  It's been over 40 years since seeing you last, my friend ... but I trust I'll see you again.

Dave, My heart hurts.  You have been such a dear friend to me for all these many years in good times and in bad.  You made me see things through different eyes with your knowledge and insights into history, music, art.  We had such fun discussions and debates!  I cannot imagine our little group without you.  I miss you now.

I will so miss your quick and quirky wit, you always made me laugh! No one saw life quite in the way you did. I will very much miss our group get togethers. Rest In Peace My Friend.

I am deeply grieved to read of Dave's passing.  He was one of my best friends throughout adolescence and early adulthood. I cannot even express my sorrow.  I have sought many times to find him in social media over the last decade or so, but could not.  Today was a shock.  May the family have God's peace during this time.
