

David E. Parris, 66, of Bettendorf, took his final journey Home on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2014 at New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust St., Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Mr. Parris was born March 9, 1947 in Waynesville, NC, a son of Lawrence and Reva (Shipman) Parris. He served in the United States Navy from 1967-1970. On December 23, 1967, he married Darlene Comer in Davenport. He retired in 2009 from the Davenport Community Schools after 38 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle. He was an active member of New Life Baptist Church in Davenport, where he served as a deacon, on the Honor Guard, in the New Life Singers and a number of other church ministries. Survivors include his wife, Darlene; daughter, Dianna (Bradley) Smith; sons, Christopher (Shannon) Parris and Timothy (Dawn) Parris; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his parents, Lawrence and Reva Parris; and a brother, James (Marjorie) Parris. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy.
