David L. Wheeler

Dave L. Wheeler, 63, of Davenport passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. No services will be held. Cremation rites will be accorded. Dave was born November 19, 1947 in Davenport, the son of Willard and Betty (Lawrence) Wheeler. He was united in marriage to Neila Couchman on February 11, 1967 in Davenport.

Prior to his retirement in February of this year he was a machinist at Roemer Machine for many years.

Dave loved fishing and camping, especially “up north” and above all spending time with his family and his two dogs Missy and Mindy.

He was known for his many years at the stock car track. He will be remembered for his own racing as well as the many, many motors he built for other stock cars. He spent too many hours to count in his garage working on motors and sharing his amazing gift to talk.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Neila, Davenport; daughters, Sue (Jason) Lance, Stephanie (Don) Keckler; son, Michael (Jennifer) Wheeler; grandchildren, Shane Wheeler, Samantha Deney, Brandon, Alison and Carter Wheeler, brothers, Doug, Mike and Kevin Wheeler; sisters, Kim Rodgers, Karen Wheeler and Wendy Curtis. He also had many nieces and nephews who he loved.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Willard “Butch” and Denny Wheeler.

He will be greatly missed by many!
