Dean Humphrey

Dean Humphrey, of Blue Grass, IA passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. Dean was born November 16, 1946 to Izetta and Carey Humphrey in Kirksville, MO and later moved to Aledo, IL. After graduating from high school he served in the military in Vietnam. He married Terry Garrett of Muscatine on May 24, 1970 and moved to Blue Grass in January 1971. They were blessed with a son Perry in 1974.

Dean worked in the Aftermarket Auto Parts industry from 1968 to 2016. He started working for Sieg Auto Parts at the age of 16. He work for Reliable Auto Part, All Pro, Car Quest, Foreign Car Parts and Napa. Dean retired in February of 2016.

He was an avid car enthusiast of all types, but his choice was drag racing. He built and raced a Chevelle, Camero, Nova, Corvette and a street roadster. He also spent twenty years helping his son and grandchildren run drag cars.

Dean lived in Blue Grass from 1971-2016, where they raised his son and became a beloved member of the community, as the “go to guy” for auto parts or general “bench racing”.

He loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks and considered it his home away from home. Dean and Terry purchased a house there in 1988 and spent time boating skiing and swimming with family and friends. Dean was never shy to share his love for the lake and family and friends were always welcomed.

Dean had a love for life whether dancing on a table, behind a wheel of a race car, skiing at the lake, selling car parts or just having a beer planning the next step. He was smiling and having fun.

Survivors include his wife, Terry, son Perry; three grandchildren; sisters Arlene Muriel and Ginger Humphrey and many friends that are like family.
