Dennis M Hughes, 80, of Davenport died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11:30AM Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at the mortuary. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 9128 or to the Zachary Hughes Science Memorial at Trinity Lutheran School. On line condolences may be made at Dennis Michael Hughes was born February 28, 1932 in Davenport, the son of Ralph Joseph and Gertrude Jennie (Green) Hughes. As a youth, Denny was a member of the Sea Scouts. He served as an adult leader in his early adult years before leaving to serve in the Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was employed as a sheet metal worker for Gabrielson. He served as Vice President of the Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 19 for a number of years. He was a proud member of VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and cheering on his favorite sporting teams including the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his son and daughter-in- law Steve and Lori Hughes and grandson Blake Hughes of Davenport; brothers Robert F. Hughes and David D. Hughes both of Davenport, Paul R Hughes, Millingon, TN; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John “Jack”, Thomas, Timothy, William & Ralph; and his grandson Zachary Hughes.
