

There will be a visitation from 5pm to 7pm Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, May 16, 2025, at the church. Cremation will follow with a burial of ashes in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church and please share condolences with the family at www.rungemortuary.com.
Dennis was born March 7, 1941, in Savana, IL to Paul & Verda (Swanson) Rury. He was united in marriage to Sheila Kuhlmann on October 24, 1964, in Davenport at Trinity Lutheran Church. Dennis served in the United States Army reserve from 1963-68.
Having an art background from Saint Ambrose College, Dennis worked in advertising for the former Eagle Food Centers for 25 years until the advertising department closed. He then worked with Ivy & Associates advertising, owned & operated the Dairy Sweet in LeClaire, IA for several years, and also owned Rock Valley Flower Shop. He finally retired from Holiday Retirement Community as part of the maintenance and management team servicing Bettendorf, Iowa City & Waterloo.
Over the years Dennis coached flag football & little League with his children, he enjoyed fishing for trout & salmon on lake Michigan and was active in the Bettendorf High School Athletic Boosters having served as president. Church life was very important to Dennis. He was a 75-year charter member of Our Savior Luther Church, Bettendorf. He was very active in the choir ministry, served on the church council as VP, was a church trustee, and was always willing to help however he could at the church as a greeter, usher, or in any other role that was needed.
Survivors include his wife Sheila Rury, Davenport; Daughter Holly Meincke, Davenport; 2 sons Tim (Dina) Rury, Woodstock, GA & Andrew (Abby) Rury, Buffalo, NY; Grandchildren Emilee (Chris) Balbach, Olivia (Eric) Denney, Madelynn Meincke, Charlie Meinecke, & Nicholas Rury; & 5 Great grandchildren.
