

Dennis L. “Red” Shelton, 66, of Davenport passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 in Davenport. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:30 am in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. “Red” was born April 11, 1947 in Drury, Missouri, a son of Tolbert and Irene (Hancock) Shelton. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was employed at LaFarge Cement Plant for thirty years, retiring in 2000. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He had an avid passion for auctions and enjoyed the art of the deal. He loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include three daughters: Deanna (Lee) Christenson of Blue Grass, Cindy (Jeff) Miller of Manhattan, Kansas and Jolene (Vern) Burton of Davenport; grandchildren Katie Irene Shelton and Adam Burton; sister Gladys (Jack) Burchell; brother J.T. Shelton, both of Missouri; niece Kathy (Bobby) Pollock and son Travis; and nephew Rick (Kathy) Burchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Betty Shelton.
