Diane Margaret Fite

Diane Margaret Fite, 66, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center, in Iowa City, Iowa. Diane was born in LaGrange, Illinois on 13 June 1960 to parents Robert and Carolyn Jones. A visitation will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 4:30-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Weerts Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a brief visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.

More than anything else, Diane was a Believer in Jesus Christ, and he was her Lord and Savior. She spent her youth in LaGrange, attending Cossitt Avenue Grammar School and swimming at Brookfield Pool. She graduated from Lyons Township High School, in LaGrange, Illinois. While in High School, she was an active member of the Youth Group at LaGrange Bible Church. She attended Kings College in New York, and later Wheaton College in Illinois, where she met her husband, Bob. In 1982, She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wheaton College, while also being inducted to the Wheaton College Scholastic Honor Society, which was limited to 7% of the graduating class.

In 1982, Diane married Bob Fite, in LaGrange, Illinois. She then spent the next 20 years traveling the Globe with Bob, who served in the United States Army. Their first stop was Fort Hood, Texas. While in Texas, Diane taught Mathematics at Temple High School. Their other assignments took them to Germany, Fort Riley, Kansas, Virginia, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. While in Germany, Diane was very active in the Army Chapel and became the President of Protestant Women of the Chapel. While at Fort Riley, Kansas, during the deployment of her Husband’s unit, she was the Leader of Alpha Company, 101 MI Battalion, Family Support Group. One of her greatest gifts, she gave her children was homeschooling. Today, her children are great people. Diane set the foundation for her children to become lifetime learners. In Hawaii, she and Bob enjoyed Weekly Sunset Walks on Waikiki Beach. After Bob retired from the Army, she went back into the School House and taught High School Mathematics at Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Illinois. She loved teaching at Riverdale. She taught Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Placement Calculus. She began the first Riverdale High School Robotics Extra Curricular Program, and one of her teams went on to win numerous state awards. In retirement, she became a passionate Knitter. She Joined the Coal Valley Knitting Club and made many friends. As a member of New Hope Baptist Church, she has been an active leader of the Women’s Ministry.

Those left to honor Diane’s memory include daughter Rebecca (Michael) Clark, son Robert (Caroline) Fite, Sisters: Janice (Jim) Crothers, Karen Cox, Linda Jurich, Lisa (Michael) Vaught, Sister-in-Law, Barbara Copeland, four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her precious Miniature Schnauzer, Minnie Pearl.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Diane to her family, to go to a cause close to their heart.
