Col. Dolores M. Jones, 91, of Davenport, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Kahl Home. Funeral services are private. Memorials in Dolores’ name may be made to the Handicapped Development Center or to a charity of your choice.
Dolores was born on June 25, 1928 to Harry and Marie Kambach in Davenport, Iowa. Following her graduation from Davenport High School, she earned her nursing degree from the Lutheran Hospital School for Nursing in Moline, Illinois. After her graduation from Nursing School, Dolores joined the United States Air Force and climbed the ranks to Colonel before retiring in 1988. During her time of service, Dolores worked effortlessly with those who suffered from Polio and needed to use the Iron Lung. Because of her dedication as a nurse, Dolores earned the Meritorious Service Award. On December 31, 1950 she married Floyd E. Jones; he passed away in 1992. Following her retirement, Dolores spent her time crocheting and knitting. Dolores was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Davenport, before her health kept her from attending.
Those left to honor her memory are her sister Donna Miller; niece Linda (Brad) Gill; nephews Mark (Debra) Holmes and John Holmes; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; and her sister Marilyn Holmes.
