Donald Richard Schroeder

Donald R. Schroeder, 86, of Davenport, passed away at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Services in celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 26th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 - 4 pm at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, with military honors presented by the Davenport American Legion, Post 26. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, of which he was a member.

Donald was born in 1931 in Davenport, the son of Rudolph & Irene (Lueth) Schroeder. He married Janice Frye on June 21, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2016.

Donald worked on the survey crew of the Scott County Engineers and the Iowa Department of Transportation as a materials inspector. He retired from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as an inspector. He loved traveling with Janice in their camper, visiting 48 of the 50 states, only missing the Carolinas. He also enjoyed eagle counting along the Mississippi River. Donald was a retired veteran serving his country in the Army Reserves and the National Guard.

Survivors include daughters Diane (Kim) Peiffer and Denise Schroeder, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Carey Reiter, Joplin, MO, Joshua (Lisa) Peiffer, Elk Grove Village, IL, Lindsay Peiffer, Davenport, Colin (Olivia) Schroeder, Wildwood, MO, and Aubrey (Kenny Nguyen) Hreha, Ames, IA; great-grandchildren, Daniel Reiter, Ezra Reiter, Lukas Peiffer, a Peiffer great-grandson arriving very soon, and two step great-grandchildren, Owen Bensi and Livia Bensi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents; and brother, Kenneth Schroeder; and a grandson-in-law, Frank Reiter
