

Funeral services will be 11:30AM Friday (5/24) at the Runge Mortuary.
Burial will follow in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday (5/23) at the mortuary.

Donald was born July 8, 1936 in Davenport, IA to Earl & Dorothy (Schroeder) Westphal. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict as a member of the underwater demolition team. Don was a tax accountant and enrolled agent, having worked as the business manager for Strieter Motors and more recently Sitrick & Associates from where he retired in 2001.
Don was an active member and Elder at Long Grove Christian Church, and formerly at Trinity Lutheran Church Davenport. He was cemetery trustee for Butler Township and had served as Dick Hagen’s campaign treasurer for many years. Don loved to golf, maintain his yard and was always willing to help others with tax & financial information. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, & great grandpa. One of his favorite joys was giving rides and teaching the grandchildren to drive the lawn tractor. His final act of kindness was to be a donor for the Iowa Donor Network to help others.
Survivors include his wife Petra Westphal, Long Grove, IA; 3 daughters Koreen (Mitchell) Pollock, Vilseck, Germany, Roxanne Westphal, Bettendorf, IA, Christine (Jim) Skaala, Eldridge, IA; 2 sons Bradley (Dawn) Knutson, Davenport, IA, Richard (Julie) Westphal, Eldridge, IA; 12 grandchildren Sara, Kevin, Jacob, Michael, Curt, Ashley, Lukas, Sam, Michael, Jack, Claire; 8 great grandchildren Riley, Ethan, Addison, Meredith, Oliver, Lazlo, & 2 more expected soon; and a brother David (Faye) Westphal, Dubuque, IA.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Jeff.
