Donna Jean Ferguson was born on June 5th, 1931 in Rock Island, Illinois to Bernard “Bernie” Ferguson and Jeanette Margaret (Paridon) Ferguson. Donna graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949. She married Cecil Earl Pence of Gorin, Missouri on September 9th,1949, in Rock Island. They made their first home in Davenport, Iowa, to start a family. Both Cecil and Donna worked for the Bell Telephone Company, Donna as a telephone operator. She continued to work for a few years, then became a full time mother to an eventual four children. Cecil continued to work for Bell telephone throughout the raising of their family.
Donna loved the outdoors, books, animals and her family. Cecil and Donna enjoyed traveling, exploring and camping throughout their lives. Donna even spent time living in far off places like the Middle East and Guam because of Cecil’s work opportunities. She also lived for many years in various places in the U.S. including the Quad Cities, Udall Missouri, Albuquerque New Mexico, and other areas around the country as they travelled for Cecil’s work.
Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are sons Michael A.and Mary Kay (Cronkleton) Pence of Eldridge Iowa, and Douglas D. and Linda S. (Hollmann) Pence of Steelville Missouri. Daughters Teresa Jo (Pence) Talon and Amy S. Pence both of Davenport Iowa. And all of Donna’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Cecil on June 9th, 2010 and her grandson Nathan J. Pence on November 15, 2006.
