She was born on May 3, 1968, to Wayne and Sharon Dettmann, who both preceded her in death. Dorie grew up in Davenport and graduated from West High School in 1986, later earning her degree from Augustana College in 1991. She built a long career in retail sales, known for her dependability, kindness, and the easy way she connected with customers. Over the years she worked at Hy-Vee, Kmart, and Kwik Star, and most recently was a valued employee at Costco.
A gifted violinist, Dorie played music for most of her life and was 1st Violinist for Classical Moods Quartet and St. Ambrose Community Symphony, where she shared her talent and love of music with the public. She was also passionate about figure skating, spending many years involved with and supporting the local skating community. At home, Dorie cherished her beloved cats, who brought her constant comfort and joy.
Dorie is survived by her brother, Lee (Michele) Dettmann of Colorado; her nephew, Alex, of Arizona; her aunt, Marcia Killien, of Washington; and four cousins. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, fellow musicians, and skaters, and all whose lives were touched by her gentle spirit.
Visitation will begin at noon on December 6, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, followed by services at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate her life.
