Dorothy Louise Adams, 85, of Crystal Lake, IL, formerly of the Quad Cities died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Crystal Pines Nursing Home in Crystal Lake, IL. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm at the mortuary.Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, IA. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com Dorothy was born June 9, 1927 in Davenport; the daughter of Floyd and Carmen (Carter) Winckler. She graduated from Davenport Central High School. She married Robert W. Adams on July 9, 1948 in Milan, IL; he preceded her in death on December 19, 1997. They lived in Aledo, IL where her husband had a retail milk business until 1959. While in Aledo she was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls organization. After living in Macomb and Peoria Illinois, the family moved to Moline, IL in 1963 where Dorothy worked as the head checker at the Jewel Turnstile Store. Her husband’s work later took her to Madison, WI; Belleville, IL and Wheaton, IL before the couple retired to Ruskin, FL. After her husband’s death she moved back to be near family and friends, spending time in Davenport, Hot Springs, Ark., Lititz, PA and the Chicago area. During her retirement Dorothy enjoyed painting, ceramics and golf, but, her greatest love was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those left to honor her memory include her children: Daryl (Martha) Adams, Barrington Hills, IL; Dennise S. (Gary) Benear, Swansea, IL and Pamela J. (Earl) Snyder, Lititz, PA; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne K. England.
