

Dorothy “Dede” Martens, 85, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Davenport Central High School Band and Orchestra Parents (CHS BOP). Dede was born on January 23, 1927 in Sioux City, IA, a daughter of Leonard F. Duman and F. Lucille Duman. She grew up in Sioux City with her sister, LuAnn. Dede was united in marriage to Richard Warren “Big Bear” Martens, Sr. in 1948.
Dede took great pride in caring for her loved ones. She worked as a secretary in several businesses. Dede and Big Bear enjoyed camping with friends, traveling and spoiling their grandchildren. In her retirement she enjoyed making friends while working alongside her family at Greatest Grains where she left behind her famous brownie and cheesecake recipes.
She is survived by daughter, Julie Ann (husband, Clyde Mayfield) and sons, Richard Warren Jr. (wife, Sachiko) and David Leonard (wife, Beth); grandchildren, Christopher, Kathleen, Molly, Pauli, Kelly, Max, Eli, Cassia, Mac and Tempe; and great grandchildren, Cassidy, Cara Lynn, Reagan and Vivian.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
