

Visitation for Douglas J. Leatherman, 75, of Blue Grass, will be held Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary. Military graveside rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Doug passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, after a long hard fought battle with Parkinson's disease.
DouglasJay Leatherman was born July 30, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa to Lester and Esther Leatherman.Douglas married Eva Broughton March 29, 1969. He later married Michelle Bourdeau on April 22, 2006.
Doug was a 1960 graduate of the last graduating class of Davenport High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. Doug was aboard the U. S. S. Hopewell and received an official Letter of Commendation for his part in the ocean rescue of a downed aviator.
Doug was a proud IBEW electrician for over 40 years and just recently received his 50 year IBEW membership pin. He also owned and operated D & E Distributors for 20 years traveling to gun shows on the weekends selling Fort Knox gun safes.
Doug was an avid golfer and you could find him at Duck Creek Golf course everySunday morning for the past 50 years.He experienced every golfer's ultimate dream of a Hole in One twice! Once at Highland Springs Golf Course on Hole #8 and another time at Emeis Golf Course on Hole #2. He proudly and tirelessly volunteered as a Grunt at the John Deere Classic ever since its inaugural tournament held at TPC Deere Run. He was an outdoorsman, a deer hunter and enjoyed special hunts in Wyoming, Canada, Alaska and Africa.
He was a wonderful father who taught his daughters by example a great sense of work ethic and responsibility. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need of help.
He liked to tease that he highly recommended retirement - He enjoyed it to the fullest spending his time golfing, fishing, camping, vacationing, breakfast with his buddies, going south for the winters and his nightly Long Island Iced Tea.
Doug is survived by his wife Michelle, his daughters Dawn (Andrew) Guzzo, Winona, MN and Julie (Frank) Maere, Colona, IL, six grandchildren; Kyle, Daria, Amber, Austin, Anthony and Dane, and his very best canine friend, Abby. He is also survived by his sister Connie (Gerry) Short, Bettendorf, Iowa and his brother John (Darlene) Leatherman, Rockford, Illinois.
The family wishes to thank the Genesis Hospice team - the home visiting nurses, the nurses at the Clarissa Cook Hospice Home and all of the Aides who showed tremendous care for Doug and support for the family. Simply put, they are true angels here on Earth!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flights of the Quad Cities (HFQC).
