Douglas H. Ruddy SR., 90 of Davenport, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012. Private family services will be held. Runge Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VFW, Davenport.
Doug was born December 10, 1921 in Coon Rapids, IA the son of Earl and Hazel (Harding) Ruddy. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Anderson on May 28, 1949 in Marquette, MI. She passed away October 5, 2005 in Davenport.
He was an insurance investigator for many years. Doug served in the U.S. Army during WWII and survived the wars battles, which included the storming of Normandy on D-Day in 1944. After the invasion of France he was captured by the Germans during what was called The Battle of the Bulge and sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Here he was held captive for five days until his rescue. This experience changed his life forever.
Those honoring his life are his sons and daughter-in-laws, Douglas H. RuddyJR. (Karen) Davenport and David (Monica) Ruddy West Branch, IA.; grandchildren, Jessica, Katelyn, Bryanna and Claire; great grandson, Camden; sister Jean Ruddy, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie, brother, Anthony and his parents.
