I knew Ed from working with him at the Rock Island Arsenal – I was in contracting and Ed, obviously, in Engineering. We had a contractor claim that went to the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals in Washington D.C. Our attorney, who came from Washington D.C. due to the amount of the claim, met with us in Rock Island to prepare for the hearing. During these meetings our attorney “suggested” to Ed that he may want to dress more conservative during the hearings.
I’ll never forget the look on our attorney’s face when we met with him in D.C. the day before the hearing. Ed was dressed in a bright plaid suit, which for us was conservative for Ed, especially compared to his usual “dapper” attire, but not by our attorney.
The next day at the hearing, in the same bright plaid suit, Ed impressed the hearing judge by his knowledge of the contractual clause that he ruled in our favor. It was during the hearing we learned Ed was mainly responsible for writing the contract clause that applied to the case.
Ed was extremely sharp and intelligent.
May he rest in peace. My sympathy to all the family.

Dear Lisa and Mel,
Brenda and I wanted to share our thoughts and prayers for your entire family and are so sorry for your loss. Your father had a passion for photography that was contagious. I remember as a child we had many trips while including traveling to the Wisconsin bike trails. Ed was riding behind to capture the perfect shot of the flowers and beautiful railroad landscape. As you go thru these tough times ahead may you know the Smith family feels your loss, are here for you in the spirit of friendship, and will continue to pray for you in this time of need.

Lisa and Mel...I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your dad Ed. I am so sorry I missed the passing of your mom so many years ago, but I so remember her at the many garage sales and church gatherings. I also remember both your mom and your dad so vividly with cameras around their necks at all times. They were wonderful people with a lovely view of life thru the lens. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this most difficult time made even more so with Covid-19 and Thanksgiving just around the corner. Be thankful for the memories you made, for the life they both lived and the love you all shared. Continue to comfort each other no matter the struggles that life brings and know both your parents are with you every day, watching over you and your families.

You have my deepest sympathy...
Sheri
