Edwin R. Burger, 88, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Ridgecrest in Davenport. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Konig Chapel at Ridgecrest. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 am until 1:00 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Edwin was born November 9, 1925 in Chicago, IL; the son of Edwin R. and Edith (Carss) Burger. He married Kay B. VanHarpen on September 1, 1956iin Milwaukee, WI. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1994. Edwin graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He also attended the University of Illinois as a graduate student and was a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in McGregor, TX from 1953 until 1955 and then for the City of Milwaukee from 1955 until 1958. He was employed by the Corps of Engineers in both the Sacramento, CA and Rock Island Districts. He retired March 31, 1993 from the US Army Material Command Installation and Services Activity, Rock Island Arsenal with over 34 years of federal civil service experience. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, playing cards, dancing, big band era music and Northern Wisconsin. He was a life-time Green Bay Packers fan. Along with his wife, Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald Paul and Robert James. Those left to honor his memory include his sons and daughter-in-law, Dean and Andrea Burger, Sioux City, IA; Alan, Davenport, Lyle, Milwaukee, WI; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and David McCloy, Clinton, IA; Jane and Jon McKeever, Lyndon Station, Wi .; grandchildren, Jordan, Nick, Nate, and Andrew Burger and Logan and Kelsie McKeever.
