Elaine A. Wier

Elaine A. Wier, 91, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly at Genesis Medical Center – West Campus on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

She was born August 18, 1922 in rural Andrew, Iowa, a daughter of Andrew and Alice (Fuller) Bolte. On April 1, 1951 she married Bud Wier in Davenport. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2003.

Mrs. Wier was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for over sixty years, served on its memorial committee and was a member of its King’s Daughter’s chapter. She served on the Alcoa Retiree Board and was a former Cub Scout leader and PTA member. She was a friend to all she met and mother-figure to many.

Survivors include her children: Candy (Kenny) Burmeister, Davenport and Doug (Sheila) Wier, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Troy Burmeister, Tara (Andy) Bries, Andrew (Brianna) Wier and Daniel Wier; three great grandchildren, Cooper, Ali and Gabrielle Bries and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Kelchner, Betty Swieter and Bonnie Turner.
