Elbert Austin

Elbert Austin, 75, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family in his Davenport home. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014, 12:00 noon at Runge Mortuary; visitation will at 11:00 am until time of service. Per his request, cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Elbert was born May 5, 1939 in East Moline, IL; the son of John and Gladys (Prior) Austin. He served in the U.S. Air Force and had worked many years as a Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy, retiring in 2001. He was a lifetime Harley Motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed his “Harley” Friends. He was a member of Blue Knights, “HOG” (Harley Owners Group) and the Quad City Eagles. He previously married Iesther Jones and later divorced. He was united in marriage to Elaine Trefz on October 16, 2014. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elaine; his children: Dena (Polo) Newby (Quick), Rock Island, IL; John (Olivia) Austin and Vicki Austin, both of Nebraska; stepchildren: Teri Johnson, Moline; Reed (Rebecca) Trefz, Wisconsin and Tracy (Greg) Riffle, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Erika Williams, Jason Williams, Dillon Newby, and Alexia Austin; nine step grandchildren, Jared, Jason (deceased), Jacob, Jenna, and Josef Pautsch, Erika and Tucker Trefz, and Alex and Zach Riffle; nine great grandchildren and one step great grandchild; Sister, Johnnie Mae Dozier, Silvis, IL; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Levy and Sid Austin.
