Davenport, IA Memorial services for Elizabeth Mae Straight, 89, of Davenport, will be 12:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Inurnment will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Elizabeth passed away unexpectedly after a fall on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.Elizabeth Mae Avery was born on July 10, 1926 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Frances (Baird) Avery. She married Stanley Eugene Straight on September 15, 1946 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2014.Elizabeth loved her weekly family gatherings and the time spent with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She stayed busy crocheting; afghans for each one. She enjoyed her garden and canned for many years. Elizabeth was a wonderful cook and there was always room for another setting on the table. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Science, Davenport. She was a wonderful, loving and caring person. Elizabeth had worked retail at Peterson Harned Von Maur. She then worked at Geifman Food Stores as a cashier, retiring in 1986.Surviving include daughters: Mary (Matthew) Orwitz of Davenport, IA, Cynthia (Terry) Dumerauf of Donahue, IA, and Suzanne (Richard) Lindbom of Pleasant Valley, IA; sons: Stanley A. Straight of Davenport, IA and Robert (Janice) Straight of Des Moines, IA, 14 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren, and sister; Helen(Robert) DeBoer of Cedar Falls.She was preceded in death by her husband, son David, parents, 2 great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Dornfeld and brother Richard Avery.Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Science in Davenport.Online memories and condolences may be left for the family at Cunnick-Collins.com.
