

Emma Lou Venzke, 104, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Emma was born on August 6, 1912 in Davenport, a daughter of F.W, and Emma (Franz) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Alvin R. Venzke on August 17, 1941. She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Altar Guild for many years, the Valparaiso University Guild and the Trinity “Bag Ladies” who make quilts for world relief.
Emma loved to play Skipbo and other games at the Davenport Lutheran Home. She loved to go out to eat at restaurants trying new places after church with her friends. She was famous for her cookies, especially her Christmas cookies and was a great cook. She enjoyed traveling, having visited Alaska and Europe.
Survivors include her son, Gary Alvin Venzke, Oakdale, IA; grandchildren, Andrew Ryan (Cathy) Venzke, Ankeny, Matthew Aaron Venzke, Tempe, AZ and niece, Sue (Nick) Dallas, Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bernice J. Meyer; and brothers, Walter R. Meyer and William Meyer.
