My sincere condolences to Eric's friends and family.  He certainly left a mark on me in our short time working together. Eric came to me several times seeking career advice and to work on the SWRMC Podcast project together. He was passionate and infectiously positive. I remember he always came prepared with a list of questions and notes to diligently work through his ideas while being an amazing listener, totally soaking things up--very characteristic of his dedication, inquisitiveness, and engagement. He proudly showed me photos of his new daughter and was a light in the world. So sad to hear of his passing--he was full of optimism and enthusiasm that certainly left a mark on anyone he was around.

Cogan family wishes to thank everyone for their heartfelt expressions. Your words meant a great deal to us. Your sharing your memories have given us great comfort.  

Eric was the epitome of happiness and hope. He was one of the most thoughtful and positive people I had the pleasure of calling my friend. I remember when he joined the workforce at SWRMC and his exuberance for learning a new skill was infectious. He was one of the first work colleagues I told of my pregnancy and after his daughter Emily was born, he beamed with pride in every photo and milestone he shared. He was so in love with his wife, always expressing how proud he was of her accomplishments as a mom and as a nurse, and was an extremely doting father. I remember how happy he was when he first told me he was having a baby - a joy he was afraid he may never have. He deserved all the happiness in the world and I'm so saddened by his sudden departure. I'll miss him as a friend, knowing the world will be just that much dimmer without the light he gave with his wonderful personality. You'll forever be missed my dear friend. 

I had the pleasure of working with Eric during my onboarding process. He represented dedication, insightfulness, and kindness that has inspired myself and others in C400. 

Eric's willingness to help without hesitation and his patience with other colleagues are just a few traits of what we saw at work, which made him an all around outstanding person. It was an honor to have known and worked with Eric. We will miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Eric at SWRMC. He asked me mentor him and it began a wonderful and memorable  bond. Eric was kind, caring, loving, intelligent and a beautiful human being. He loved his daughter Emily and his wife Marie with all his heart. Eric wanted to practice law again and wanted a great future for his daughter… and so began a journey across the country. We would have Zoom calls where Emily would say hello and smile. You can see the love and devotion in Eric’s eyes. 

Eric will be sorely missed. He was a beacon of hope and light. My sincere condolences to Marie, Emily and Eric’s entire family. God bless you and keep you. 

The first time I met Eric, was at the beginning of a job rotation at SWRMC.   During our introductions, I made a joke that he would be my new best friend. Well, I thought I was joking! We helped and supported each other thru the entire 90-day job rotation and long afterward. Even after Eric moved to another state, he would check in once a month. He would ask about work, and my daughter and our mutual friends at SWRMC.  Eric cared deeply for all the people in his life. He treated his friends like extended members of his family. Having that level of care and concern for people... invited them to have that same level of love and concern for him and his family. He would share his love and admiration for his wife Marie with everyone he knew. When he celebrated her- we celebrated her. I will  never forget how proud he was when Marie passed her RN board. Eric's eyes lit up when he shared "her dream is coming true." Then there was the excitement surrounding Emily's arrival. He had two different baby showers because his work-family shared the joy of her arrival with the new parents. When it was time for him to move on to his next job- we celebrated again- for the next Cogan family adventure. Now we mourn together. The loss of a colleague, a friend, a member of the family.
Eric now takes his place among the stars. How lucky were we, to have him shine in our presence, just for a little while? Marie, Emily, Robert, Beverly and Andrew- I am so sorry for your loss. Eric will be missed.

I only came into contact with Eric a handful of times, but he was always so kind to me when I did.   He made me feel welcome, and I truly appreciated that.  Sending my thoughts and prayers to the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Eric for some time when he onboarded with SWRMC. Eric really had an enthusiasm and joy for life that was inspiring to me. That’s what always comes to mind for me when I think about him. No matter the circumstances, he made the best of it and I truly appreciated him for that. He really did light up every time he talked about Emily. It was so great to see. Joy and kindness are contagious, so thank you for sharing your bright light with us, Eric. You will be missed. My condolences to Maria, Emily and the rest of Eric’s family. God Bless. 

I remember when Eric first checked-in with me in 2018. So positive, optimistic and excited to get going. Just a month later, SWRMC had a safety and wellness fair and, to my surprise, there was Eric manning the earthquake booth. Having only been onboard a month, he had already volunteered for a command level event!  I stopped by to say ‘hi’ to Eric and see what the earthquake booth was all about. He told me he was quizzing people on earthquake safety. I knew he was from out of state and, me being a cocky lifetime southern Californian, told him to give me all he got.  I proceeded to answer every question wrong… Quite humbling.,,  Every-time I bumped into him thereafter - I made sure to remind him of the time he made me feel like a dumb ass… Of course, he’d then apologize and I’d have to tell him that it’s okay and that I was just kidding,,..

I don’t know why I always think of that - I just do. Eric was a good person. Thoughtful. Considerate. Always positive. Supportive. Always willing to help. No matter what it was that he was doing, he always gave it his all. I’m very fortunate to have know and worked with him. 

Eric was the nicest person I have ever met. He was such a bright light for this world and he always thought about others.  What made him so amazing was that he learned what each person’s interests were and then every time he’d talk with a person, he’d remember that. For example , he knew I got a puppy in 2019 and he knew I loved talking about Kibbles and every time we’d chat, he’d ask how Kibbles was doing and ask for a photo. Even after I left SWRMC he went out of his way to visit.

Eric was also extremely talented and clever.  In talking with Justice Haller, she mentioned that Eric’s wedding from which she presided was one of the most cleverly planned ceremonies she ever witnessed.

Eric had a gift of making everyone feel special. I’m sure he’s doing the same now in Heaven.

What saddening news to receive. Eric was a special kind of person, a sentiment all that knew him echo. His kindness and insight guided me in my first months working at SWRMC. It was truly an honor to know him, work, and learn from him. He has left a lasting footprint.

My deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed. 

My twin sister and had the pleasure of working with Eric at SWRMC.  We also attended CalWestern when Eric did but we did not have the pleasure of meeting Eric until we got to SWRMC.  We are so shocked and saddened by his untimely passing.  Eric was the epitome of kindness.  I never met someone so selfless and genuine.  He loved talking about his beautiful wife and daughter and I was so excited for him to achieve his dream of working for the Army as an attorney. 

Eric's kindness will live on not only in his beautiful daughter but in everyone he touched in his short life on earth.  Thank you Eric for being a beautiful example of Christ's love on earth.  We will miss you.  God bless and may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

I'm very sorry to hear about Eric. I worked with him for several years at SWRMC and enjoyed every interaction I had with him. He was a very kind man and I will miss him.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Eric's passing.  He was one of the most compassionate, caring, and genuine person I have ever had the honor of knowing and working with.  He always saw the goodness in everything and everyone and every time I asked to see pictures of Emily, he lit up like the sun.  

May God bless give you strength, courage, and comfort during these difficult times.
