

Ernest Z. Kozma, 87, of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Care Center, Davenport, Iowa on March 8, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Faith United Methodist Church, Davenport. Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 on Monday, March 19th at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. The family will hold a private Inurnment at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion. Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church. Ernest Z. Kozma was born on April 5, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Zigmond and Agnes (Gereb) Kozma. He married Ethel St. John on September 17, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio. Ernest worked for 10 years at the Rossford Ordinance in Rossford, Ohio and in 1961 was transferred to the Rock Island Arsenal where he worked as a Packaging and Commodities Inspector before retiring in 1977.Ernest was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion, Plus 60 Club, A.A.R.P, and National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. He proudly served in the Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed watching his favorite teams; Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Browns and in his later years enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his wife, Ethel, of Davenport, sons; Terrance Kozma of Davenport, Richard (Tammy) Kozma of Plainfield, Indiana; and a daughter, Nancy (Andrew) Lopez of Dyersville, Iowa, five grandchildren; Stacy (Mike) Meier of Bradenton, Florida, Melissa (Mike) Bornhorst of Parrish, Florida, Patrick Lopez of Dyersville, Iowa, Michael Lopez of Iowa City, Iowa, and Katelyn Rose Kozma of Plainfield, Indiana, two great-grandchildren; Kaylee Meier of Bradenton, Florida, and Joshua Bornhorst of Parrish, Florida, a brother, Louis (Marilyn) Kozma of Northwood, Ohio, and brother-in-laws Leonard Swigonski of Toledo, Ohio and Lee Studer of Laguna Hills, California, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Arlene Studer and Margaret Swigonski.His family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Good Samaritan Care Center and Genesis Hospice for their wonderful care.
